PC Show June 2008 Singapore

The PC Show for 2008 held at Suntec City is one of the worst I've ever seen.

I happen to be in Singapore and I visited the PC Show to find good deals on Routers, Graphics Cards and a new PC, however I was greatly disappointed.

There was firstly a lot of people -- most of them do not even look like they use PCs, but they seem to be there to take up space, and enjoy the over crowding. It was very difficult to walk and with these people who come to the PC Show with their 4yr old in strollers, things get much worse.

I expected the telcos to be there along with the big computer brands, however, the telcos are there promoting random stuff... Singtel seems to be promoting F1 Singapore and Starhub is away in a corner doing their thing. Initially, I could only see Apple, Asus and Acer, and the other computer (PC) companies are not easily found. Though there are signs, there is a crowd waiting for people or just standing in front of them, and the map of the show is simply inaccessible.

I've been to many tradeshows but this seems very poorly organized.

As I tried to squeeze through the crowds, sales people with boomed your ears with their loud ads as you walk past their stalls. The floor was littered with brochures as many out of control children seemed to be taking them and throwing them on the floor while their parents ignore them even in the crowd.

I managed to find some good notebooks that seemed like an okay deal, $50 discount for a $1800 notebook. And you get free upgrade to 3GB Ram, however the upgrade was not instant, and there was another queue for a technician to install it. (I mean if you are giving away free Ram, why not put it in all the computers. If people do not want free Ram, they can get it removed and discarded. Well I've not know people who do not want free things, especially in Singapore.)

For all the computers there, I've talked to some sales people to see if I can have Windows XP instead of Windows Vista. Some of them do not seem to understand English or do not know what Windows XP is and others just tell me no, even when I offered to pay extra. Some accounting software in my company needs to run on XP and it is important to get a PC with XP instead of Vista.

It took me quite a while to find the Dell booth, but it was incredibly small and packed. I'd like to get a dell desktop, but the small booth makes me feel that Dell is in financial difficulties and I should not ever get a Dell PC as they may close down any day.

There is a part of the hall which sells things at "Warehouse Price" which seems like the same price anywhere else in Singapore. The selection was pretty weak, and everything feels like some inferior "China Product".

I wanted to get a good mouse and Keyboard, but the best ones were the microsoft ones. (which is okay, but they were regular priced. WTF!)

The noise and crowd was getting annoying and I wanted to buy many products but in the end, I left with nothing.

There seems to be good deals for LCD TVs, but as I already have a big one, I did not find out more. There are a lot of foreigners buying them though, and the taxi queue was very long.

I've always heard good things about the PC Show, but it was very disorganized and sad. There is a Great Singapore Sale going on outside which does not seem to have good deals as well as things are marked up and then a discount is given.

I probably will not ever return to Singapore for the PC Show as it is an absolute waste of time. I had quite a negative experience, and if this is what I came to Singapore for, I'd never return to Singapore again.

Luckily Singapore still have great food and lots of areas for shopping. (With the strong exchange rate, Singapore does feel really expensive as everything is at least 15% more expensive than last year -- Prices still the same even though S$ appreciated... Food is definitely a lot more expensive than last year, about 30% more??)

I really do hope the Singaporeans are coping well with their inflation.

Lakers won game 3?

Damn, Celtics were leading in the fourth quarter 68-66 with 6 minutes remaining and then just blew it?

Coach Doc Rivers could only look on in frustration as the Celtics blew a fourth quarter lead to allow Los Angeles to crawl back into the series.

This sucks.

Lakers vs Celtics

Its finally here again!

The Celtics advanced to the NBA Finals by defeating the Detroit Pistons, 89-81, in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Boston won its 20th conference crown and will make its first Finals appearance since 1987. The Celtics will play the Western Conference champion Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals for the 11th time, having won eight.

I can't fit into my Jersey now, so I'm off to the store to get my Celtics Jersey!

This will be a good one and I think Pierce can do it!
