What is Wireless@SG?

QMax is proud to announce its collaboration with IDA for the Wireless@SG programme. This is a wireless broadband programme developed by IDA as part of its Next Generation National Infocomm Infrastructure initiative.

Users can enjoy free, both in-door and outdoor seamless wireless broadband access with speeds of up to 512kbps at most public areas. Once connected, users will be able to access all Internet-based services e.g. online gaming, web surfing, instant messaging, VoIP and email.

To connect to the Wireless@SG wireless broadband network, a user just needs a WiFi-enabled device, such as a laptop computer or a PDA, a web browser, and a registered Wireless@SG account. With this registered account, the user is able to roam within any of Wireless@SG's coverage areas, regardless of the operators' network.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wonder if this is true.

Here is the news...

Free Access to Wireless@SG Network Extended From Two to Three Years

Singapore, 30 November 2006 | For Immediate Release

Wireless@SG Launches 1 Dec 2006, One Month Ahead of Schedule

Following the announcement on 10 October 2006 by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, that Singapore will get to enjoy two years of free wireless broadband connections from January next year, the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) today announced that the three Wireless@SG operators have extended this free offering to three years. Users can also begin to enjoy wireless connectivity from 1 Dec 2006, one month ahead of schedule at selected hotspots for a start.

The three operators supporting Wireless@SG, iCELL Network Pte Ltd, QMax Communications and Singapore Telecommunications Ltd will extend the free access period till December 2009.

To enjoy the free Wi-Fi basic-tier access with surfing speeds of up to 512Kbps, users can sign up with any of the three Wireless@SG network operators starting 1 December 2006. This offer is open to all residents and visitors in Singapore, and users can sign up with any operator to access all the hotspots in Wireless@SG. By September 2007, the number of Wi-Fi hotspots in Singapore will increase by more than five-fold from 900 today to about 5,000.

There are various ways users can register for the free basic services. These include online registration, where users can complete an online registration form at any of the three operators' websites. A password will then be sent via SMS to subscribers' mobile phones. If they happen to be at a Wireless@SG hotspot, they can also select the Wireless@SG network and click on the 'New User Sign Up' button found on the log-in page. Similarly, a password will then be sent via SMS. Alternatively, those without mobile phones or online access can visit any of the operators' customer service centres to register and collect their passwords. Users can also check with their operator of choice for other registration methods.

Wireless@SG will be available at public areas with high human traffic such as the Central Business District, downtown shopping belts like Orchard Road, and HDB Town Centres. Network coverage will be made available progressively from 1 December 2006 and subscribers are encouraged to provide feedback on how to improve the Wireless@SG service via email to their respective operators. Details of network coverage locations can be found on IDA's website.

In addition to the free "basic tier", there will be a paid "premium tier" for those hungry for bandwidth beyond 512 Kbps, or for connectivity options with higher-quality of service. The three operators have different packages to suit different needs and there is no limit on the number of premium accounts users can sign up for.

IDA Assistant Chief Executive, Infrastructure and Manpower Development Group, Mr Khoong Hock Yun said, "Infocomm connectivity has the power to enrich lives. With Wireless@SG, we're another step nearer a truly mobile lifestyle for Singaporeans as the country progresses to becoming a globally connected and intelligent nation by 2015."

Wireless@SG is the Government's wireless broadband programme that aims to extend broadband access beyond the homes, schools and offices, to public places. IDA called a Wireless Broadband Market Development (WBMD) Call-For-Collaboration in March 2006, to grow Singapore's wireless broadband market and catalyse broadband adoption. It is part of the Next Generation National Infocomm Infrastructure which when ready by 2012, will also comprise an ultra-high speed wired network.

Registration details are available in the fact sheet attached.

According to the ida webpage, there is currently

Coverage Areas for Wireless@SG Launch on 1 Dec 2006

Total Locations: 254

Which seems far less than the 900 claimed on the press release...

I don't understand how the reporters could just have these news and figures at face values without a simple searching on their webpage to get the truth...

I am trying it out at serveral locations claimed today, but I failed to log in to any one of them, and finally I reached a MacDonalds and managed to get the IDA webpage, and this "FREE WiFi" seems a little "Fishy"

Wireless@SG Account Registration

You can register with the respective Wireless@SG operators now.

Firstly, the link to iCell is not working, and I failed repeatedly to register to SingTel as I'm not a SingTel subscriber.

So I tried to sign up at QMax, and after registering, nothing happened, I did not get a password nor did I get any reply from them.

The question is, is the launch of WIRELESS@SG real or is it a hoax?

Singapore seems to be depressing me.

I'm using the free WiFi now at MacDonalds, and I've been approached by several people for donations, (Which seemed very Bogus) and I'm hearing a lot of con-artists at work around me.

They seemed to be selling things from Education investment, time sharing to multi-level marketing products, which they say is not multi-level at all.

I can't believe these people still think that they can get a "Good deal" and "Free money" if they join. -- To help them save more money, as the funds are in USD, they would deposit funds with some Escrow service and which would save them wire fees...

Damn, so many con artists, and so many stupid Singaporeans...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My internet connection here is very slow, it is even hard for me to check emails.

So I'll not upload pictures until this weekend.

Sushi does not taste good in Singapore.

Though the food is fresh, and seafood is fresh..

Met up with my family and went to dinner at East Coast Parkway...

There are several seafood restaurants by the beach, and the view is nice.

The food is very good there, and the famous Singapore Chilli Crab is simply awesome.

Along with huge Jumbo Tiger Prawns, Garopa and vegetables... (And a lot more seafood) The meal was definitely filling.

This is my sister with her daughter, and boy does she pose for the camera when she finds out you are taking pictures of her.

I watched 2 movies in 1 day, all thanks to Adrian and Shaun!!

Damn!

" Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny "

This movie is
pretty funny and it has many original scores and jokes.

The songs in this movie are also pretty well written but overall, this movie is just above mediocre...

There crude jokes and humor in the movie, though may be original, feels very much like "I've seen this somewhere before" and it does not strike me as a brilliant movie.

It is however, pretty enjoyable to watch, with lots of "Pot Jokes" and may be better when you are high. Too bad for me, I'm in Singapore and drugs are expensive here.

Wait for the DVD for extras and it is not really worth full price to watch.

"Happy Feet"

Happy feet is a much better movie compared to Tenacious D, even though it is animated.

The characters in Happy Feet are pretty compelling and the story somewhat feels touching and the triumphs of the penguin "Mumble" really warms your heart.

The voice acting and animation, along with the storyline and the great use of music scores in this movie really works and with blending of modern songs and mixing, along with the tap dancing of the cute little penguins are very much enjoyable and fun to watch.

Happy Feet is very well made and definitely deserves to be watched on the big screen.

Stupid Singapore Experience.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I arrived in Singapore on November 17th at 12 noon on Cathay Pacific.

I started my journey from Boston on 15th November, and as usual, the flight got delayed 2 hours.

So from the start, I had to rush from plane to plane all the way from New York to Hong Kong.

Finally when I arrived in Singapore, my luggage did not arrive.
luggage.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was not that bad initially as I thought my luggage would arrive several hours later.

I was really disappointed at the luggage lost and found service at Changi International Airport. There was only 1 person serving me while the many other people behind the counter were chatting away among themselves. I had to wait almost an hour before someone did anything to try to locate my luggage.

After waiting for this really slow service, I was finally told the most worthless thing ever... "You will get your luggage when it comes..."

There was no one here that could track my luggage, know whether it was on any flights or at any airports...

All my sample and clothes were there and I had a 4pm meeting.

As there was nothing I could do, I went to a presentation at the National University in Singapore (NUS). As I had no passports, and my parents were not home, I had to buy new clothes and stay outside.. Life sucks...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After calling them every 4 hours, I finally got a reply 28 hours after my flight landed. My luggage arrived 36 hours after my plane landed.

The experience was very bad. I never expected Singapore airport to be that bad. Well they are no longer the #1 airport.

LaLaa Nation at 77 Union St in Newton Center is coming along nicely. The store is very bright and lively.

After a long day of building, all the shelves, tables and racks are up.

The store is also very bright in the day, there is plenty of windows for light to enter.

And at night, there is also plenty of lighting in the store to make everything look like day.

The store owner, Enitan, practically designed the store herself!!

Check out the naked bodies on display. I'm sure they will have clothes on opening day.

The color of the shelves goes well with the walls. With the red accent, it really stands out.

With the bags hanging on the walls, it is really starting to look like a store.

Enitan is starting to put her inventory on the shelves. I'm sure this store will come together and have great products to offer soon.

So look out for this store, LaLaa Nation, located at 77 Union St. in Newton center.

See you there!!

-- Iron Bowl

I just got my Sonicare tooth from BzzAgent, and I must say, the packaging is quite nice.

The outer box looks pretty attractive, and I'll definitely be interested if I were looking for a rechargable toothbrush in a store when I see it.

The box however is totally destroyed after I open the packaging, and the interior is properly sealed to prevent contaminants. A nifty idea I guess except I would need to have a scissors or some sort of cutting tool to access it.

I would be really crossed if I was travelling and I got this toothbrush and it is late at night and I cannot remove it out of the packaging.

Packaging aside, the toothbrush itself looks pretty good along with its accessory. For a brand that I have not heard before for rechargable toothbrushes, Philips has done a pretty good job of designing.

So I charged it and tested the toothbrush for the first time.

I read through the instructions manual and it looks pretty informative and well formated.

After charging was done, I used it for the first time.

My initial response was:

Damn this is loud!!

As a sonic toothbrush, I guess the word "Sonic" says it all.

Sound aside, It felt pretty good, and my teeth felt much cleaner after the brush.

I've had several electrical toothbrushes, and I would say, the Sonicare Toothbrush is by far the one that cleans the best.

Aside from cleaning my teeth well, it also feels well made and durable. Everything seems to be sealed and you cannot see any exposed terminal for the batteries, an important feature as a toothbrush is always going to be wet.

Overall, I like the toothbrush, and I hope the accessories are easily available and not too expensive as I stopped using my other electric toothbrushes when the toothbrush heads cost $10 each to replace... Some of them became discontinued after I had the toothbrush for 3 months, and the worn tootbrush cannot be replaced...

The Bike is back!

My fender is finally installed and it looks better than ever!!

I gave the Harley a wash and it was as good as new again!!

The white wall tires look new after a good wash.

The sun is out and the weather was nice even for November!
I need to go riding before the riding season ends.

Chicken Fried Steak Ice Cream

http://dethroner.com/index.php/2006/...eak-ice-cream/

Not just chicken fried steak a la mode, but chicken fried steak covered with a scoop of ice cream made from the schmutz from a deglazed pan in which the steak was cooked. It was, surprisingly, awful:

Flavorwise, this was hands down the most disgusting ice cream I’ve ever had the misfortune to taste. All my opining about the conceptual affinities between ice cream and cream gravy went out the window with the first bite of the meaty frozen custard. The melted ice cream, intended to simulate a rich cream gravy, tasted like fried beef crème anglaise. (Crème Texan?) I quickly flipped the aberrant dollop into the sink, where it landed with a dull, metallic thump.

Borat was a shockingly funny movie.

I'm not going to review this movie here, but I'd recommend watching it.

Borat is a fictional character who is from Kazakhstan. Due to the cultural difference, Borat may seem to the people in our society like he has no shame.

The whole movie is very shocking and offensive to many. BUT it is ridiculous funny.

Damn, I could have sworn the T was much cheaper in 1999, like 85 cents, and in 2007, it is going to be $1.70??

I wonder how are people who cannot afford to own their car in Boston pay for the service?

I feel that the T, expecially the Green line (B line to be specific) needs serious maintenance. I've gone on the T 3 times last month without paying as the machine which you put money in is broken....

When I was living in Malden, waiting in the cold for the bus is a real pain. If I missed the bus on Sunday, they next one was 1 hour... And my walk home was 45 minutes!!

Boston has became a much worse place to live, with higher crimes, higher murders and expensive transportation??

I don't get it.

MBTA board approves fare hike for T, buses and light rail

By Mac Daniel, Globe Staff, and Andrew Ryan, Globe Correspondent

The MBTA board voted unanimously this afternoon to approve the T's second set of fare increases in three years despite the objections of Governor-elect Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino.

The nine-member board of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority approved recommendations to increase the price of subway and trolley tickets by 45 cents; up bus fares by 35 cents; and increase the cost of most commuter rail passes by 22 percent.

The increases, slated to take affect in January, are projected to bring in an additional $71 million a year as the MBTA tries to balance its budget after two years of shortfalls.

T officials acknowledge that the fare hikes will drive away an estimated 16.5 million passengers a year. The MBTA carries about 1.1 million passengers on an average workday.

Under the new fares, subway and trolley rides will go from $1.25 to $1.70, and bus fares from 90 cents to $1.25.

This morning, Menino urged board members to consider shutting down little used bus lines in the suburbs and postpone any fare hike until officials can explore other options. Fare hikes, especially on bus lines, would hurt those who can least afford it -- the hospital workers, restaurant employees and students who rely almost exclusively on public transportation, he said.

"Who is going to take the T? It's not going to be the executives from some of our biggest companies," Menino said this morning in a Globe interview at the Parkman House. "It's our working people ... It will take money out of their pockets."

MBTA General Manager Daniel A. Grabauskas has said that the T doesn't want a fare increase, but that heavy debt and anticipated budget shortfalls make it necessary.

Governor-elect Deval Patrick opposes the fare increase, though he said on Wednesday that he recognizes the financial troubles of the MBTA.

"This couldn't come at a worse time when ridership is low and falling," Patrick said at a press conference the day before the increase was approved.

Carrie Russell, a staff attorney at the Conservation Law Foundation, issued a statement opposing an increase.

"It is time to move beyond the short-term solutions that push riders away from the MBTA and look toward real investments that will turn around the state’s transportation problems, avoid traffic congestion and reduce global warming and air pollution," Russell said.

Kissing a poisonous snake to set a world record.

Damn...

Snake charmer Khum Chaibuddee kissed 19 highly poisonous king cobras in an attempt to set a world record at Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum in Pattaya, Thailand last month. One by one, the cobras were released onto a stage, where the 45-year-old snake charmer kissed each beast and then moved onto the next.

The LaLaa Nation store in Newton is looking better every moment.

The store is painted and looks brand new.

On Union street, every store is white and relative boring looking.

This store on 77 Union Street, right across from the Newton Center T-station is BRIGHT GREEN!!

We just got the carpets cleaned and replaced the switch covers.

With more lights and furniture, this place will look AWESOME.

The walls are very interesting and we kept the orange for good measure.

Even the little room is painted now.
It has a window and an "Attic" for more storage space.

The room will be cleaned and the furniture will be installed and I'll have more photos up soon.

Please check out the store when it is done!!

LaLaa Nation finally got their store.

Enitan has got her store in Newton.

It is at 77 Union St.

Right across from the T-station.

I'm helping her paint her store right now.

The store is going to be lime Green, with white and orange accents. And she is going to sell handbags, wrist wallets and belts. (Perhaps Greenyarn products)

This store is looking pretty good, and I kinda like the location as many people pass by the store daily.

Hope she does well!!

Boston Business Journal Nov 3, 06

I am on the Boston Business Journal, taking up the whole page!!

It is pretty awesome for the reporter to report a whole page on Greenyarn. I am truly overwhelmed by this.
It started off as a pitch letter, which I learn how to write by attending Harvard Extension, and I honed my skills by multiple pitched I sent to countless reporters to report on Greenyarn. I wrote the articles and pitches but they were edited by Navin.

I managed to get into some web news and magazines every month.

Finally, I made it to a local paper!!

Guess who is back...

Yes, you guess it. It is my fender for my Harley.

A recent theft/vandalism created some dents and scratches in the fender, and it had to be replaced. The replacement was hard to find, and finally a compromise "red fender" from a 1976 XLCH was found.

The fender was sanded down with a 320 grit sandpaper and smoothened with a 400 grit. It was then inspected for dents and primered. The primered fender was then wet sanded by a 600 grit sandpaper until it was smooth and without "orange-peels".

The color was a tri-state paint, white with pearls. A custom color, and it had to be blended and matched with the gas tank.

The pearls were "House of Kolor" specialty paint pearls, which was expensive and hard to get. Ice Pearls glass flake pigments go beyond what traditional pearls offer in vibrance, brilliance, and sparkle–especially under sunlight conditions.

I'm going to install the fender tommorow, and hope it looks good on the motorcycle again!!

Halloween is over.

The pumpkin is going to be lit tonight.

Halloween seems to be an excuse to dress up and drink.

At the Kells, there is a long line outside for people to get in. There is of course many people all dressed up in interesting costumes, some very involved and others just something they throw on.

I feel rather old as there is hardly anyone here over 25. I would say most of the girls here are even under 21. Allston seems to be a college town, and all these underaged drinking is all around.

Is college here all about drinking and partying? I seem to see drunk students every weekend and lots of parties going on. Are they really here to study?

Well after drinking a lot, and being really young, there is of course, much throwing out too, as shown by the pumpkins below...

I had a Naruto Cosplay costume to go as Sasuke, but it did not turn out to be as awesome as expected. So I tried to get a Kakashi costume, and it did not arrive in time.

Since I had a photo secession with the Boston Business Journal, I did not really have the opportunity to dye my hair and be all in character, and as I got a haircut, I decided to just put on a "Bobby" costume and enjoy some beer.

I met several "Mario"s, "Captain Jack Sparrow"s, "Lara Croft"s, "Corona" girls, vampires, Texas Chainsaw Characters... Some were pretty good and some were just average...

I like "Shake" best... (Aquateen Hunger Force)
